Why Acoustic?

Today, I asked myself:

Why are you learning acoustic guitar when all of the music you enjoy listening to is rock / metal?

Answer:

It's somewhere to start, and economically so.

I do love my heavy metal, but a nice electric guitar, amps, and the like, are far more set up than taking an acoustic off the wall and throwing it across my lap.

I'm playing acoustic guitar to prove to myself that I want to stick with this instrument. When I get 'decent', I'll probably switch to electric. All of my favorite music is there, but I won't start there. Acoustic is a solid foundation, and something that will always work when the power goes out.

Plus, after getting your fingers used to the acoustic, jumping to electric will be a walk in the park. The strings practically fret themselves.
