No. Really. Practice more than one song.

Nearly 40 days later, I had a real and frightening experience with mental fatigue.

I dropped all my other songs in favor of 1 song, 20 minutes minimum, daily since the 1st of January. I scrapped the advice about playing more than one song. I felt it was slowing me down.

For a while, it seemed true. I was doing much better on the one song, progressing faster, doing swimmingly.

Until last night.

I'd been playing about 30 minutes when I began messing up on things I played perfectly just 20 minutes ago. I decided to take that middle passage and concentrate on it. The more I played it, the worse I got. I decided to try playing the whole song through. It was terrible. At one point before I decided to quit, my hands were hovering over the keys as I tried to figure out ... what ... note ...

Dumb struck.

My brain needs a switch. It's tired, and it wants to do something different. I *should* play more than one song at a time.

And now I know why.
